Audyssey DSX and Dolby Pro Logic IIz work together to create a more enveloping home theater experience Audyssey DSX™ and Dolby® Pro Logic® IIz Add New Dimensions to Surround Sound The HT-RC260 offers two new surround-sound technologies from Audyssey and Dolby that offer exciting new ways to set up the speakers in your home theater system. Audyssey DSX lets you incorporate "front wide" speakers in place of the usual surround back speakers to expand the width of the soundstage. Set up at a recommended 60° off center, these channels help to produce a more realistic soundstage and a more immersive listening experience. Alternatively, Audyssey DSX can reconfigure the HT-RC260's surround back channels to deliver "front height" channels. These channels carry ambient, non-directional audio that adds a new vertical dimension to your movies and games. Dolby Pro Logic IIz provides a similar front height speaker option that likewise works to create a more enveloping home theater experience. A Suite of Audyssey Technologies Crafts Your Ideal Listening Environment Beginning with the TX-SR508 all 2010 Onkyo A/V receivers come with a suite of Audyssey technologies that help create the most suitable listening environment for your home. Audyssey 2EQ™ tailors multi-channel audio for your home theater speaker set-up by measuring three room positions and applying a resolution filter to the satellite speakers to correct for room acoustics. Audyssey Dynamic Volume™ automatically compensates for volume fluctuations in different audio content—for example, during commercial breaks—while optimizing the dynamic range. Audyssey Dynamic EQ™ maintains a consistent bass response, tonal balance, and surround-sound effect at different volume levels, so you can enjoy the natural dynamics of your content regardless of the volume. Faoudja DCDi effectively removes video artifacts so you can enjoy smooth video quality Advanced Faroudja Video Processing with 1080p Upscaling Faroudja DCDi Cinema (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) video processing offers several advantages. This processor can accept any video signal, regardless of the source resolution, and upscale it to 1080p to match the native resolution of your high-definition display. What's more, DCDi Cinema effectively removes video artifacts such as jagged edges during the video signal deinterlacing process. Enjoy smooth progressive-scan video images, even during fast-moving sports and action scenes. Convenient Overlaid Graphical On-Screen Display via HDMI Changing your A/V receiver's settings is now more seamless than ever, thanks to the HT-RC260's new overlaid graphical On-Screen Display (OSD) feature. Simply press the Home button on the included remote controller, and semi-transparent graphical set-up menus appear overlaid on the video image you're watching. This means you can adjust the settings immediately, without having to switch back and forth from a blank screen background. The optional Onkyo UP-A1 dock for iPhone/iPod lets you connect directly to your HT-RC260 receiver Universal Port for Single-Cable Connection of Optional Onkyo Dock for iPhone™/iPod® or HD Radio™ Tuner A proprietary Universal Port located on the rear side of the Onkyo HT-RC260 lets you connect an optional UP-A1 Dock for iPhone/iPod or UP-HT1 HD Radio Tuner (both sold separately). If you have both peripheral devices, they can easily be "daisy chained" via an input on the UP-HT1. A key advantage of the Universal Port is that it accepts video and audio signals through the same cable that sends a power supply from the receiver to the devices. Net result: more connectivity, less cable clutter. Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT)--A Total Design for Amplification Power The cornerstone of any Onkyo A/V receiver, WRAT supports high-quality audio reproduction of the latest high-definition A/V formats. It comprises three key elements: A low negative feedback design for cleaner audio across the frequency range; a closed ground-loop circuit to cancel individual circuit noise and keep the ground potential free of distortion; and a high instantaneous current capability to handle speaker reflex energy and impedance fluctuations. Onkyo's low negative-feedback design with audiophile-grade, close-tolerance components achieves a frequency response out to 100 kHz for high-definition and regular DVD formats, high-resolution DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD, regular CDs, digital music files and the latest gaming software. A sophisticated closed-circuit design enables each circuit to go and return directly to the power supply which, coupled with the use of thick brass grounding plates, helps cancel any individual circuit noise and keeps the ground potential free of distortion. The instantaneous current capability of Onkyo's WRAT receivers exceeds that of most conventional units, which commonly have less than half the current capability. An Onkyo receiver will deliver movie soundtracks with cinema-standard dynamics and clarity. Additional Audio Features for the Most Versatile Home Theater Applications Playback of Different Audio Sources in Two Different Zones With Powered Zone 2, you can enjoy surround sound entertainment in the main room, while playing back a different stereo source in a second zone equipped with a pair of speakers. Alternatively, you can use the Zone 2 line out to send an unamplified audio signal to an amplifier (and speakers) in the second room. Easily select from four different game modes for a more realistic audio experience Four Game Modes for More Realistic Action These four gaming modes create an audio experience with more realism and impact. You can select from Rock, Sports, Action, or RPG (Role Playing Game) modes to match your gaming content. Onkyo's Music Optimizer improves the quality of compressed audio siganls. Music Optimizer to Support Compressed Digital Music Files While MP3 or AAC files may sound fine on a portable digital player, the limitations of these compressed files can be exposed when played back through a home entertainment system. Onkyo has designed onboard Music Optimizer technology to improve the quality of compressed audio signals. Compressed music loses a substantial amount of bit information at higher frequencies, so the Music Optimizer technology works to overcome this limitation and enhance audio quality. The best customer reviews 90 of 92 people found this review helpful. Very value for money. By Chris Henshaw Let me start by saying that I'm not an audiophile and I do not have a super fantastic speaker, not to comment so this review is not on the nuances of the sound quality of this receiver. But let's face it, if you only spend $ 350.00 on a receiver, looking for a good receiver, not one that will fly out of the water. That said ... Onkyo came in one day (thanks to Amazon Prime) and came well packed. There was a serious dent on one side of the box, but no damage inside. The receiver is pretty heavy (I hope that decent internal states). Set up was very easy. The 5-Port HDMI in the back (plus one in the front) is of course easiest to connect a. The speaker terminals are clearly marked and there are two subwoofer pre-outs. Also, if you do not want to run a real 7.1 A set-up, you can run a couple of fronts or bi-wire the front speakers (if you have this option) It was not planned at this price. I connected the monitor to the receiver. Slim Sony PS3, Xbox 360 (first generation / Component + Toslink cables), the WD TV (media player) and a Comcast cable box (make Motorala). In addition to the Xbox 360 console is connected via HDMI. Optical and coaxial audio inputs are assignable (once to enter the menu system that is on the screen). I have everything through HDMI cable, a 35-foot ceiling of my projector Epson 8100 (which is a 3-LCD 1080p units). I use a Harmony remote, so can not comment too much on the Onkyo included, but I use it to set the receiver and is quite comfortable to hold and seems to have a complete set of function keys on it. Just a few random notes: - The display on the receiver is very light, but the remote has a dimmer button on it that can dim the display until it's almost - had the microphone set-up very easily. Put it in 3 locations and suggested a few buttons. The rest of the calibration for you. - Be able to produce sound (even through my old Sony speakers) is better than my old Sony and Denon receivers. - HDMI pass-through is available as onboard upscaling and analog-digital up-conversion to 1080p via HDMI output (a very nice feature in this price class) Note that I'm no expert, but I am setting up of a series of systems (from cheap home-theater-in-a-box up to $ 50,000 custom home theater room) and this product really impressed me in the features and easy setup. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to ask on Amazon. 38 of 38 people found the following review helpful. Kent with a great receiver I had in the past two days to enjoy my new receiver and 'what one would expect from Onkyo. A point to note regarding the price, the price is actually 499 and not 549, so that reduces the total savings. The price of 349 is still great for what you have found. The RC260 is essentially a slightly reduced offer Onkyo SR608. It lacks three elements, the 15-pin VGA input, Sirius input and THX Select2 certification. For those who do not need three of these features, you can save by choosing the RC260. Unfortunately, this device because it's based off of SR608, which also caused degradation of 1080p video processor is integrated in the video. This used to run 1080p up-converting your sources. You can turn off if you choose, but you lose the screen, which is very useful. However, you can even configure it through the screen of a line in the drive has a total of six HDMI inputs, so there are many and I do not know if it will ever be able to consume them all. Help when you need to have it though. It is an audio / video processing options galore. 31 of 31 people found.
