Onkyo TX-SR608 7.2-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black)
Sure, we call it an "entry-level" A/V receiver. But when you witness the full potential of the TX-SR608, you'll know the level you're entering is far beyond the ordinary. For a start, you get six of the latest HDMI 1.4 inputs for simple hook-up of all your high-def sources. HDMI 1.4 also brings compatibility with the new 3D video format, as well as an Audio Return Channel from your display back to the receiver. Complementing HDMI on the input front, you have an analog RGB video input for connecting your PC, and a Universal Port for Onkyo peripherals. All video sources, regardless of resolution, can be upscaled to big and beautiful 1080p via HDMI and Faroudja DCDi Cinema. Audio processing incorporates quality Burr-Brown DACs, lossless Dolby and DTS codecs, and the expanded surround formats of Audyssey DSX and Dolby Pro Logic IIz. Three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry and jitter cleaning technology work to ensure extremely precise and faithful amplification. In recognition of the TX-SR608's outstanding A/V prowess, it has been awarded THX Select2 Plus Certification.

Click to view HDMI connections HDMI® 1.4a Support for 3D Video and Audio Return Channel The TX-SR608's six HDMI inputs let you simultaneously connect high-def sources such as a Blu-ray player, a gaming console, and a cable/satellite tuner. As the latest version of this connector, HDMI 1.4a adds the exciting possibilities of 3D video and an Audio Return Channel. 3D video is the next big thing in home entertainment, with movie, game, and broadcast content on the increase and 3D-compatible HDTVs on the near horizon--the TX-SR608 gets you ready for this next generation of content at a surprising value. The Latest Hi-Def Audio Decoders for Rich, Lifeike Movies and Music In addition to full THX® Select2 Plus™ certification, the Onkyo TX-SR608 A/V receiver can decode Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™—two lossless formats that enable delivery of a bit-for-bit soundtrack identical to the studio master track. Previously available only on mid-range and high-end receivers, now you can take full advantage of your Blu-ray movies for a true cinematic audio experience. The TX-SR608 also handles Dolby® Digital Plus and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio™. Audyssey DSX and Dolby Pro Logic IIz work together to create a more enveloping home theater experience Audyssey DSX™ and Dolby® Pro Logic® IIz Add New Dimensions to Surround Sound The TX-SR608 offers two new surround-sound technologies from Audyssey and Dolby that offer exciting new ways to set up the speakers in your home theater system. Audyssey DSX lets you incorporate "front wide" speakers in place of the usual surround back speakers to expand the width of the soundstage. Set up at a recommended 60° off center, these channels help to produce a more realistic soundstage and a more immersive listening experience. Alternatively, Audyssey DSX can reconfigure the TX-SR608's surround back channels to deliver "front height" channels. These channels carry ambient, non-directional audio that adds a new vertical dimension to your movies and games. Dolby Pro Logic IIz provides a similar front height speaker option that likewise works to create a more enveloping home theater experience. A Suite of Audyssey Technologies Crafts Your Ideal Listening Environment Beginning with the TX-SR508 all 2010 Onkyo A/V receivers come with a suite of Audyssey technologies that help create the most suitable listening environment for your home. Audyssey 2EQ™ tailors multi-channel audio for your home theater speaker set-up by measuring three room positions and applying a resolution filter to the satellite speakers to correct for room acoustics. Audyssey Dynamic Volume™ automatically compensates for volume fluctuations in different audio content—for example, during commercial breaks—while optimizing the dynamic range. Audyssey Dynamic EQ™ maintains a consistent bass response, tonal balance, and surround-sound effect at different volume levels, so you can enjoy the natural dynamics of your content regardless of the volume. Faoudja DCDi effectively removes video artifacts so you can enjoy smooth video quality Advanced Faroudja Video Processing with 1080p Upscaling Faroudja DCDi Cinema (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) video processing offers several advantages. This processor can accept any video signal, regardless of the source resolution, and upscale it to 1080p to match the native resolution of your high-definition display. What's more, DCDi Cinema effectively removes video artifacts such as jagged edges during the video signal deinterlacing process. Enjoy smooth progressive-scan video images, even during fast-moving sports and action scenes. Convenient Overlaid Graphical On-Screen Display via HDMI Changing your A/V receiver's settings is now more seamless than ever, thanks to the TX-SR608's new overlaid graphical On-Screen Display (OSD) feature. Simply press the Home button on the included remote controller, and semi-transparent graphical set-up menus appear overlaid on the video image you're watching. This means you can adjust the settings immediately, without having to switch back and forth from a blank screen background. The optional Onkyo UP-A1 dock for iPhone/iPod lets you connect directly to your TX-SR608 receiver Universal Port for Single-Cable Connection of Optional Onkyo Dock for iPhone™/iPod® or HD Radio™ Tuner A proprietary Universal Port located on the rear side of the Onkyo TX-SR608 lets you connect an optional UP-A1 Dock for iPhone/iPod or UP-HT1 HD Radio Tuner (both sold separately). If you have both peripheral devices, they can easily be "daisy chained" via an input on the UP-HT1. A key advantage of the Universal Port is that it accepts video and audio signals through the same cable that sends a power supply from the receiver to the devices. Net result: more connectivity, less cable clutter. Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT)--A Total Design for Amplification Power The cornerstone of any Onkyo A/V receiver, WRAT supports high-quality audio reproduction of the latest high-definition A/V formats. It comprises three key elements: A low negative feedback design for cleaner audio across the frequency range; a closed ground-loop circuit to cancel individual circuit noise and keep the ground potential free of distortion; and a high instantaneous current capability to handle speaker reflex energy and impedance fluctuations. Onkyo's low negative-feedback design with audiophile-grade, close-tolerance components achieves a frequency response out to 100 kHz for high-definition and regular DVD formats, high-resolution DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD, regular CDs, digital music files and the latest gaming software. A sophisticated closed-circuit design enables each circuit to go and return directly to the power supply which, coupled with the use of thick brass grounding plates, helps cancel any individual circuit noise and keeps the ground potential free of distortion. The instantaneous current capability of Onkyo's WRAT receivers exceeds that of most conventional units, which commonly have less than half the current capability. An Onkyo receiver will deliver movie soundtracks with cinema-standard dynamics and clarity. Additional Audio Features for the Most Versatile Home Theater Applications Playback of Different Audio Sources in Two Different Zones With Powered Zone 2, you can enjoy surround sound entertainment in the main room, while playing back a different stereo source in a second zone equipped with a pair of speakers. Alternatively, you can use the Zone 2 line out to send an unamplified audio signal to an amplifier (and speakers) in the second room. Easily select from four different game modes for a more realistic audio experience Four Game Modes for More Realistic Action These four gaming modes create an audio experience with more realism and impact. You can select from Rock, Sports, Action, or RPG (Role Playing Game) modes to match your gaming content. Onkyo's Music Optimizer improves the quality of compressed audio siganls. Music Optimizer to Support Compressed Digital Music Files While MP3 or AAC files may sound fine on a portable digital player, the limitations of these compressed files can be exposed when played back through a home entertainment system. Onkyo has designed onboard Music Optimizer technology to improve the quality of compressed audio signals. Compressed music loses a substantial amount of bit information at higher frequencies, so the Music Optimizer technology works to overcome this limitation and enhance audio quality. HD Radio broadcasts without the hiss or distortion of analog radio HD Radio™ and SIRIUS™ Satellite Radio Ready Onkyo's TX-SR608 offers compatibility with optional tuners for both HD Radio and SIRIUS Satellite Radio. HD Radio broadcasts your favorite AM and FM stations digitally, with none of the hiss, distortion, or station drop-off of analog radio. SIRIUS provides exclusive access to over 130 channels of commercial-free music, sports, news, talk, and comedy. Onkyo's Theater-Dimensional cicuitry lets you experience surround sound with as few as two speakers Theater-Dimensional Circuitry Easily Puts Surround Sound Anywhere Onkyo's exclusive Theater-Dimensional circuitry takes the complexity out of conventional surround-sound set-ups and lets you experience the excitement of surround sound from as few as two ordinary speakers. Want more? Theater-Dimensional's unique multi-speaker modes let you place up to five speakers conveniently by the TV, for the most realistic virtual-surround sound possible. Remote Interactive over HDMI (RIHD) Onkyo A/V receivers offer integrated system control with certain HDMI-compatible high-definition displays, DVD and hard-disk recorders, and Blu-ray Disc players. With one remote control, you can control functions such as Standby, Volume, and Direct Change. Front-Panel Audio Input for Portable Devices If you have an iPod® or other MP3 player, you can connect it to the TX-SR608's front panel for quick and convenient audio playback. Your player's compressed digital music files can then receive a quality boost from the receiver's Music Optimizer technology.

An incredible value, but HDMI Video Issues March an otherwise perfect entry-level receiver from WDH Donald cannibalized indavertantly so many CES, the Onkyo's own model series with so much in an entry-level receiver that it can deter buyers from their higher featureset end models. I recently made a detailed comparison of Pioneer VSX-1020 and Denon AVR-791 and Onkyo, Pioneer joined because of its beefier amp section and OSD functions. That means I need the user to point out that their value by what appears to be an error with his ability, an HDMI video signals untouched, overshadowed in the "Through" mode. This error manifests itself in two ways: 1 24-bit sources (such as cable television) upconverted to 30 bits when the output on a display and 2 inexplicable picks 1080p 24fps sources at times as if a frame is dropped. The latter may be more noticeable for plasma owners, while the 120 Hz and 240Hz LCDs can compensate for the frame stuttering with interpolation software (ie, soap effect) for the reservation, the Onkyo a fantastic artist who has a strong current ( Power consumption is an increase of 607 to 756 watts a very mature), great flexibility (four speaker terminals can be assigned to wide, level or zone 2). Denon is limited to only seven speaker terminals and Pioneer has just left a couple of terminals. Audyssey auto callibration (2EQ) is a notch behind the Denon, but the introduction of Audyssey DSX (wide arrangement) is a feature that Denon does not offer. Although not a USB connection for iPod playback, Pioneer and Denon, it offers a PC input, the HDMI handshake nightmare may face many problems with the HTPC. Onkyo smarter above the hood is a receiver, which is quiet and almost eliminates the toaster historical Onkyo effect I really like this receiver, but found no HDMI issues very problematic sexual abuse and what the sea a purchase of another so amazing. Hopefully Onkyo can issue a firmware update. 70 of 73 people found this review helpful. I love my new Onkyo 608 by Bob As others have said, the two versions of a star not to comment on the new Onkyo 608 (no point for me). Anyway, I love my new Onkyo 608th Never check these things, but I wanted to give props to this receiver. I was debating between this and the new Pioneer 1020th But I have heard that the amplifiers of the pioneers not compare with the Onkyo amp. Even if you can not check the truth of this, I think the Onkyo amp is a very high quality. I've noticed a lot to increase the power over my previous Yamaha receiver (the model that comes with the Yamaha HTIB 390) It takes a lot more sound, and I love the ability to take advantage of HD audio. I noticed a huge difference in the monitoring of fidelity compression Dark Knight Dolby Digital and Dolby True HD. The track was intended to include a lot of bass, and even HD. The regular Dolby does not compare. Thus, high-definition audio is definitely worth having if you own a Blu-ray. As the quality of video (some transfers are better than others, the quality of known reference), not all audio tracks will have a big difference, but for me it's still worth it. Back to Onkyo: I love it. There are so many options you can modify. If you like the ability to configure your computer, you'll love this receiver! You can also bi-amp with this receiver, which is good if you have seven speakers. 38 of 40 people found the following review unreal receiver / incredibly helpful ... very, very impressed. T. Elfers first, people do not even have the "608" should not even have to post. Trying to "608", which built a fan and "606" have-nots is similar is the fact that "608" has 2x the amount of resources.
