By GreggBzz I did a lot of research, like most of you will do, and determined that this was the best I could do with my budget. My primary concerns were sound quality and getting enough power for a large room (19' x 20') This does well in those regards, while you sacrifice in other areas. For this price you can't have everything! Pros: The components seem quality built. The receiver is heavy and well ventilated. The speakers are heavy and wooden. Everything is just sturdy. It shipped well packed in a heavy box. The amplifier itself is the same circuitry and power rating you'll find in more expensive Denon receivers, like the 591 and 1611. From what I gather it's THD and power compare well with more expensive models. It certainly does a good job with the included speakers. It will get ridiculous house party loud, no worries. The HDMI inputs gave no problems. Denon is sometimes noted for handshake problems, but I did not encounter any. I have a Motorola DVR, a Sony BDP-S570 blu-ray and a Samsung PNC50C450 and they all sync up perfectly. I did the latest firmware updates on each device prior to the Denon arriving. The sound is pretty tweak-able, if you have the patience. More on that later. The included speaker wires are long. Cons: Setting this thing up is tedious. There's no surround auto setup. You need to measure your speaker distances manually. You need to tweak the loudness of each speaker to your liking. They should all be equal. You need to specify the type of each speaker.. etc. The menus are not very intuitive. The included speaker wire is pretty thin 22 gauge. I suppose this is ok, but it seems fragile and I prefer some more durable, less resistive 16 gauge wire for the long runs in my room. You may want to play with the crossover frequencies also. Letting the sub handle everything below 200Hz provided the best results in my case. At first I thought the sound was muddy. I then did some research on room acoustics and speaker positioning. Most real experts (the ones that work in the field and/or adhere to the scientific method) agree that the room it's acoustics and the position of you and your speakers is the single most important variable in sound quality. I completely agree after re-positioning my speakers three times. The most significant change was moving the sub-woofer out of the corner and into the open. I also got some quality mounts. In conclusion, do some research, put your speakers in the right spots, work with the setup for 3 or 4 days until you get the sound you want and crank it up. After all that, holy cow! Crank it up! 25 of 25 people found the following review helpful. Excellent entry-level HTIB By Cordial I was deciding between Onkyo HT-S3300, Yamaha YHT-393BL, and Denon DHT-391XP. I went with Denon. What strikes me is the size of the speakers. They are big! The surround speakers are larger than Yamaha's and Onkyo's fronts, while the front, center and the sub are really big for an entry level system. And unlike Yamaha and Onkyo, Denon's speakers are wooden, though we're not talking hardwood here. Size of speakers was probably the one thing that Denon had as a clear advantage and eventually swayed my opinion, given that everyone was complaining about the mediocrity of Yamaha and Onkyo speakers. I gathered that the receivers are quite comparable and just didn't like the miniscule size of Onkyo and (especially) Yamaha speakers. When I was ordering the system, the person in the store said the Yamaha and Denon weren't actually comparable and that Denon was much better. Now, for the sound quality: I'm blown away by the sound quality and volume. Granted, my space is rather smallish. It's a corner in the lower floor of my house. It's about 11'x11'. I have a Panasonic 42' plasma and a FIOS. The bass is very strong and deep. I read some reviews where people complained about the

Onkyo TX-SR674 7.1 Channel Up-Converting A/V Receiver (Black)

Onkyo 7.1 HDMI Up Conversion A/V Receiver TXSR674

Amazon Sales Rank: #64106 in Consumer Electronics Color: Black Brand: Onkyo Model: TXSR674 Dimensions: 25.13 pounds WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) DTS, DTS-ES Discrete/Matrix 6.1, DTS Neo:6 Enhanced IPOD Compatibility & XM Ready All Discrete Output Stage Amplifiers

To move to a level beyond purely functional home theater, the TX-SR674 gives you everything you need for audibly powerful, visually expressive home entertainment. The first consideration should be the essentials—like rock-steady amplifier power and performance through Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT) and the cleanest audio signals generated by Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC). And with HDTV in mind, the TX-SR674 also offers High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) and connectivity with the latest high-definition disc formats. Capping it off with Audyssey 2EQ™ room acoustics correction technology, the TX-SR674 stands out as one of the more complete A/V receivers in its class. Special Features HDMI 2 Input / 1 Output, 1080p bandwith - ready for next generation DVD players Auto Speaker Calibration with Audyssey 2EQ - Creates an optimal listening area, not a point - perfect for families Video Upconversion to HDMI with deinterlacing - ensuring your video looks the best on the newest tv's Key technology Features: 192 kHz/24bit AD Converters: Costly, extremely powerful digital-to-analog converters , that not only boast a dynamic range of 120 dB, they process information faster and are virtually resistant to clock jitter, to ensure the best possible performance from DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and audio CD. Dolby Digital EX / Pro-Logic IIx: Home theater realism reaches new heights with the creation of Dolby Digital EX. By adding a matrix-encoded surround back channel derived from the existing discrete left and right surround channels, the lack of rear surround in 5.1 channel is eliminated. The result - a fuller 360º experience is created…even from 5.1-channel DVD releases. Best results are obtained when Dolby Digital EX is used with movie soundtracks recorded with Dolby Digital Surround EX. Pro-Logic IIx is the latest improvement on the original Pro-Logic and subsequent Pro-Logic II standards. Pro-Logic IIx adds post-processing to 5.1 channel and stereo signals, creating a realistic 7.1 channel surround environment from 5.1 channel movies and stereo sources, such as CD, Tape, FM Radio. NeuralSurround: Neural Surround™ represents the latest advancement in surround technology developed for music and is adopted by XM Satellite Radio for digital radio broadcast of surround recordings and live events in surround sound. Neural Surround™ employs psychoacoustic frequency domain processing which allows delivery of a more detailed sound stage with superior channel separation and localization of audio elements. System playback is scalable from 5.1 to 7.1 multi channel surround playback. VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry): Conventional D/A conversion methods reduce digital pulse noise at the conversion stage but can’t remove it completely. Previously only found on our high-end components, VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to overcome this problem. Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result — a virtually noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source to bring out even the most subtle of nuances in your music, movie soundtracks and even MP3s. XM Ready: The XM "Connect-and-Play," is a revolutionary technology platform designed to integrate XM into virtually any home or portable consumer electronics entertainment device. By matching XM Ready® audio systems with a simple, elegant antenna/receiver, getting XM becomes even easier for home audio listeners. CinemaFILTER: The tonal balance of a film soundtrack can be edgy and bright when played back over audio equipment in your home—this is because film soundtracks are designed to be played back in large theaters, using commercial equipment. Onkyo has developed its own solution that restores the correct tonal balance of a movie soundtrack in the smaller environs of your home theater. DTS-ES 96/24 Neo6: There are two DTS®-ES™ (Extended Surround) formats: DTS®-ES™ Discrete 6.1 and DTS®-ES™ Matrix 6.1. The DTS®-ES™ Discrete 6.1 format is, as the name implies, a 6.1-channel system with a discrete back surround channel, while DTS®-ES™ Matrix 6.1, like Dolby® Digital Surround EX™, provides a matrix-encoded back surround channel. There’s also DTS® Neo:6, which derives a 6-channel surround output from a stereo soundtrack, and regular DTS®, which, like Dolby® Digital, is a discrete 5.1-channel system, but which uses less compression than Dolby® Digital. Receivers carrying the "96/24" designation are able to decode a new high-resolution audio format, DTS-96/24. This breakthrough allows for high quality, 5.1 channel audio encoded at 96kHz/24-bit resolution to be stored on a DVD-Video disc (or the DVD-Video portion of a DVD-Audio disc). This format is compatible with all DVD players, with those able to pass a 96kHz signal providing the highest quality output (DTS-96/24 is also backwards compatible with older 48kHz DVD player models). HDMI Video Upconversion: Converts incoming composite, S-Video signals (like a VCR to S-Video equipped TV), and component signals all the way to HDMI on most models. Powered Zone 2: By dedicating a pair of channels on receivers with this capability, you don’t need an external amplifier to enjoy an independent stereo audio source in a remote room. For example, on higher-end models this allows for a full 5.1 channel movie to be enjoyed in the home theater, while simultaneously sending a song from a CD (or other source) to speakers in another room. WRAT (Wide Range Amp Technology): Imagine turning up the volume and filling your entertainment room with noise-free, impressively powerful, true-to-life sound. That's the benefit of Wide Range Amplifier Technology. Originally developed for our most expensive high-end amplifiers to handle the sonic demands of today's digital age, you'll now find WRAT even in our lowest-priced A/V receivers. The WRAT family of technologies includes a broader frequency range with lower noise entering the signal path – perfectly suited for new high resolution DVD-Audio and SACD formats.

Jerard I bought this at Circuit City for $699, but it was worth it due to the financing offer along with the other equipment I bought along with it (Sony 46" XBR2 LCD TV, Harmony 880 remote, and some other miscellaneous Xmas gifts). You can definitely get it for much less on Amazon. The performance is quite good. The sound is excellent. The automated speaker sound set up is simple and easy. The video processing is a little difficult to set up, but works well once it is complete. The main reason I got this was to run all my video sources through one machine and only have one cord running up my wall to my flat screen. I hate cords being visible and by converting everything to the HDMI cable, I avoid the usual jumble of cords. The only cons are that the 674 only up-converts analog to 480i or in some cases 480p. So, other than up-converting the analog signals, it doesn't really up-convert anything else. It only passes along the digital signal at whatever resolution it is recieving it at - if 720p comes in then 720p goes out. As I understand it, this is really all you can do anyway, because up-converting a lower signal to a higher one does not really result in a better picture anyway - it pretty much will be equivalent to whatever the source resolution is. The other issue is that this receiver is on the HDMI 1.1 format I beleive. Most up to date format is 1.3. Not a huge deal, but the more recent formats pass more signals, for example, SACD audio is not compatible with 1.1, but I think it is with 1.2 and above. Again, not a huge deal for my usage, since I am really using it for DVD and HD satellite and it passes all those signals with no problems. I am waiting to have my Directv HD DVR (HR20 is the model I think) installed in a couple weeks - my expectation is that this signal will pass through the Onkyo with no problems. Will update this comment if any negatives. Otherwise I definitely recommend this receiver. 24 of 24 people found the following review helpful. Excellent receiver, affordable price By Aditya Vedula My setup: * Receiver: Onkyo TX-SR674. * 5.1 Speaker setup - Polk Audio: Monitor 70 fronts + Monitor 40 Surrounds + CS2 Center + PSW12 Subwoofer. I am thrilled with my new Onkyo TX-SR674. The feature that I love best is the single HDMI out to my TV. I can connect any component to the receiver and all I need is a single HDMI cable to my TV from the receiver - it doesn't matter if your video sources are a VCR, DVD Player, Cable, etc., all get routed through the single HDMI out to your TV. The setup was pretty painless and the HDMI switching feature works wonderfully. The receiver comes with Audessey auto-setup which takes care of setting up your speakers. The sound is awesome - my games, DVDs as well as my audio CDs sound amazing. Most of all, the price is awesome given the features. The only points to note are: * You have to read the manual to set it up - you can't setup from intuition to get the right sound and setup. You may need to research some of the technical jargon on the internet. * It seems to generate some heat - make sure your cabinets are properly ventilated. 15 of 15 people found the following review helpful. A wonderful receiver By D. Evans I really like this receiver. Even with my cheap $50 speakers, the sound is crisp and clear . This receiver has excellent speaker separation. The HDMI functions well; however, the skin tones have too much saturation going through the receiver. I adjusted the red tone down and now the picture on my 37in HD LCD tv looks great. My equipment hook-up was very easy too. The remote is great; it only took about 5 minutes to program all my component's codes. Everything works as advertised. I have my computer hooked up to this receiver and the sound is also good. Remember to read the manual well before hook up. I highly reccomend. See all 53 customer reviews...

MARANTZ still dominates the audio world By Brian Heuser This beautiful new receiver is packed with high-end options and the sound quality is nothing short of exemplary. For a full listing of technicals and features, see the site at: [...]. As compared to Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, and Pioneer, you'll notice a far more "natural" and "forward" sound, whereas the formers are more "punchy", "dark" or "processed". Marantz has been at the business of making receivers in this vein a long time and the 5004 is sure to please even the most discerning audiophiles. Of course, if you have $8K to spend, the Reference series is a nice upgrade. But for us common folk who still appreciate the performance and sound quality that a top-end receiver can produce, this is the one. On the "things to consider side", the SR5004 only has 3 HDMI outputs, so if you're in need of more such connections for your home theater, you might need to consider upgrading to the 6004. All in all, however, you can't beat this receiver for the money. This reviewer recommends pairing it with either Polk RTI or Bowers & Wilkins 600 series speakers. 17 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Marantz SR5004 Review - It Is Awesome By Doug It is obvious that WDH (a.k.a Winston from AVS Forums) purchased his Marantz Receivers from a "grey-market source" because no authorized dealer would allow someone to return and repurchase the same Marantz Product five times in a row! Frankly, I believe that people should keep their absurd comments to themselves when they buy electronics from non-authorized dealers to save a few bucks. Only an idiot would buy the same receiver five times and then complain all over the internet that is doesn't work right! Marantz is a quality brand with decades of experience making highly regarded products, especially receivers. Marantz is also known for quickly resolving "real issues" with their products and have a long warranty period (3 Years). Anyway, I have owned a Marantz SR5004 since October 2009 - it sounds great and I have had zero problems with it! The legendary Marantz Sound, which is smooth and refined, is definitely in the SR5004. I highly recommend the SR5004 when purchased from an authorized dealer, such as, Amazon, Crutchfield, etc. Don't buy from eBay or from a guy out of a white van in a dark alley (grin). By the way, I also have a SR6004, which has been running fine for about a month now and sounds awesome too! Enjoy the Music! 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Great Sound, Great Look, Full Featured By A. Altman This is my second Marantz AV receiver and I am very happy with the brand, sound, look, features and quality. I have been buying Marantz because they seem to do a better job on music than other brands and I AM an audiophile hobbyist. I want my home theater to reproduce music respectably, and this unit does. A surprise bonus - BluRay movie discs have a new audio format that when played via this receiver using HDMI sounds flat out spectacular. There seems to be a rule of thumb in the industry that it is not worth going with BluRay for the image upgrade unless your TV is high def and larger than X inches (where X varies from 32 to 42 depending on taste). Well, IMHO, the sound quality alone of BluRay justifies the upgrade - and also it is just very elegant to use HDMI rather than a gaggle of interconnects. Caveat: Perhaps not all BluRay discs utilize the new audio format, I have not tested enough discs to know. Thumbs up on the receiver. Art See all 9 customer reviews...

Colin McGraw I tend to do a lot of research before making large purchasing decisions and so far this receiver is receiving a pretty rosy reception! Its predecessor, the 1019, was CNET's and Gizmodo's top mid-range receiver. Both reviewers had just as high hopes for the 1020, and Gizmodo already called it the best receiver $550 can buy, saying the 1020 "hit the sweet spot" that gave the most bang for buyer's buck. The critics I read all raved about the excellent sound quality, but the 1020 brings some new offerings to the table for a mid-range receiver. In short, the most valuable features you get with this model that you don't get with the next step down are: 1. A fifth HDMI port in back, an extra sixth in front (for digital cameras, computers, etc.). 2. Analog video upscaling (which I don't care too much about since most of my content is HD already or played through an upscaling player). 3. The iContolAV iPhone app. Very cool for controlling volume and switching inputs. Works simply by having your receiver connected to ethernet and your iPhone connected to the network via WiFi. A few times the app has had trouble properly connecting, but it usually works well. 4. Internet radio with programmable stations, which is cool, though you can't currently control the station selections from the iPhone App, unfortunately. 5. A color configuration interface output to your TV via the HDMI output. I can't imagine trying to configure all my speakers without seeing a graphical representation of their location on screen. That last feature feature, the HDMI 1.4 ports that support 3D, the 7.1 surround capabilities, excellent sound quality and the iPhone App are what made the VSX-1020 the clear choice for me. I also appreciated the automatic calibration with the included microphone and the included iPod cable/compatibility, but those weren't as strong of selling points. The only negatives of note for me is that the little front port cover is a little cheap. It's not even a door, simply a little plastic piece that pops out if you push one side. I, like others, have also experienced the issue where the receiver switches to TV/Sat when first turned on, but I've yet to determine whether that's a problem with the receiver itself or my Harmony universal remote (I'll update the review as I get more information). One last tip to buyers, however. If you're considering listening to your phone's music over Bluetooth by buying the $99 AS-BT100 adapter, I'd consider buying a $99 Apple Airport Express instead (assuming your music is managed through iTunes). It lets you stream music from your computer to the receiver over WiFi and control what's playing via iTunes or Apple's robust "Remote" iPhone app, but more importantly the Airport Express acts as a USB print server and a one port wireless bridge (something that lets you connect wired devices to a wireless network). That wireless bridge capability is especially valuable, since you'll need it or something similar for internet radio and iControlAV iPhone app support if your VSX-1020 receiver isn't close to your wireless router (mine isn't). Buying the Airport Express kills two birds with one stone. UPDATE: A few ideas have been thrown out by other Amazon posters to help alleviate the issue with the receiver switching to TV/Sat when it first turns on. The first idea is to change the receiver's settings thusly: "1 Press Receiver , then press Home Menu. 2 Select `System Setup', then press ENTER. 3 Select `Other Setup', then press ENTER. 4 Select `HDMI Setup', then press ENTER. 5. Set Control to 'Off'." The second idea is to adjust your TV settings like so. "Go into Menu under HDMI-CEC and turn it Off. If the set is a Samsung look for AnyNet+ (default is normally On) and turn it Off." I'm still having issues going

This is the first time I've actually used an AVR for switching video. I previously ran all video inputs directly to the TV until now. Since most of my gear is HDMI capable I figured it was time to simplify things and run a single output to the TV and I'm glad I did. SYSTEM I wouldn't say I have a complex system but it's probably more complex than most. My system includes a PS3, Wii, XBox 360, Yamaha AVR, HD DVR from direcTV, Mitusbishi 73" DLP, and a Mitsubishi 3D converter. One reason I chose this AVR is it's 3D capable. SETUP Setup took awhile (several hours) since I had to configure not only the AVR but re-configure the other gear and the Harmony remote as well. I did find one bad input on component 1 but chose to move to a different input instead of returning it. I don't plan on using component if possible and have eliminated component so far. Well, at least until I get a component cable for the Wii. I had to configure and test 3D as well which added to the time. The AVR comes with a mic for auto-calibrating the speaker levels which I used successfully. I also renamed all the inputs so the AVR reflects my component names when in use. There's a nice feature that allows me to set a specific volume level whenever I activate the AVR. I set the composite input (Wii) to upconvert to 720p to HDMI output but honestly I'm not happy with the results hence the need to change the Wii to component. Although I'm not using it, the AVR has the capability of selecting any audio input for matching with a component input so you aren't stuck using optical when you need or want RCA or something other. Setting up the Harmony One remote was a bit of a challenge, although not due to the AVR. In fact the AVR was the easiest part to program on the thing. The receiver model was already part of the Harmony choices and works perfectly. Getting 3D configured was a bit more challenging but I got it going. I verified on the Yamaha web site that the AVR serial number was already HDMI 1.4 compliant and needed no firmware upgrade and indeed I was able to switch 3D from direcTV through the AVR to my Mitsu TV just fine. PERFORMANCE I am very happy with the choice, the performance and the setup options of this AVR. I'm not using all surround options (only 5.1) though. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 stars because of the bad component jack, and the inability of switching component input to the single HDMI output. Otherwise, it's a solid AVR that has drastically simplified my HDMI switching and given me 3D in the process. Good job Yamaha. Big Red 12/1/10 UPDATE! After using this AVR for awhile I thought I needed to come back and update this review. I still like it and would still recommend it but there is one little pain I should relay. During Directv program changes (stop watching DVR program, start watching another) I get a blue screen quite often. A blue screen from the TV's pov means no signal. However, to be fair I don't know if this is the fault of the receiver or the TV since both are new. The pain, the program will be playing while I can't see it, it takes a few seconds to sync up. The way I deal with it is to simply pause the program until the picture is onscreen. The firmware is upgradeable on the AVR so hopefully they will fix this issue if indeed it is the AVR causing it. Big Red 1/18/11 UPDATE! This is a critical update since it affects the functionality of the AVR. When I turn the volume up in the area of 10-13 and the source (usually DVD) gets to a particularly LOUD part, mostly action scenes...the receiver will sometimes simply shut off. To be honest it hasn't happened alot so I'm a little forgiving but I was watching Inception and I needed the volume loud because the center channel is a bit quiet. Goetz We had a very old audio only receiver and were looking to replace it (almost 10 year old technics). We picked up the Yamaha RX-V367, even though there were no reviews, since the receiver was just released, and it was in our price range (200 to 300). So far we are happy with the new receiver; it is connected to the satellite box, xbox, and blu ray. Speaker set up: Set of Polk Rti8 (left right and center), and klipsch Klipsch Synergy Series SS.5 rear surround (left and right). The sound coming from the speakers was MUCH better than from our ancient receiver. Not a fan of the Sound Field Programs, seems too much like a gimmick, and only adds an echo depending on what setting (one setting might effect the vocals more, or another setting might effect the music), but I imagine some people would enjoy that. Has many audio processing options, works great with Netflix streaming, set it to 5ch stereo and it will work great; can clearly listen to what's playing (netflix only streams in 2ch stereo). Mainly use the "Straight" audio processing setting (for xbox and blu ray), I assume the receiver doesn't add any extra "audio goo", and plays direct from the source. Good video quality, no noticeable video deterioration. Yamaha says it's compatible with HDMI 1.4 and will support 3D (with a firmware upgrade). Not that interested in 3d TVs anyways. Clear and easy to use menu system (compared to my old technics receiver), competent directions, fairly user friendly. Has 4 HDMI inputs which was much better than many of the competitors in the same price range. We didn't test the FM/AM tuner, and only connected HDMI and RCA from computer. We were also swayed by the extra bluetooth adapter so we can listen to music (and hopefully stream Hulu audio) wirelessly from the computer (and get rid of the airport express). Will update review after getting bluetooth. 27 of 29 people found the following review helpful. Terrific value for the money By Dave Dodd I rarely do reviews - but here I must make an exception. I highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a quality receiver to complement a Blu-ray player. I had an older Denon receiver which delivered great sound, but when the Blu-ray movies started arriving from Netflix, I found most of them required a DTS decoder which was absent in the Denon. After considerable research, I stumbled onto the new line of Yamaha receivers. I was a bit dubious, having always previously owned Denon and Sony, but the specs looked good, and the price was unbelievable, so I took the plunge. After a month or so of use, I have no regrets. The sound quality I am getting from my 5.1 Polks far exceeds the prior system. Sounds are richer, brighter, and the surround has more separation and clarity. For a 100 W per channel system, the power consumption appears amazingly low - the top of the receiver just gets barely warm, not hot. The speaker setup works well, and the movie and music presets, as well as the enhanced 5 ch stereo are outstanding, really enhancing the audio of the corresponding input. The display is large enough to see from the viewing chair, is clean and simple, and keeps the viewer appropriately informed. I applaud Yamaha for producing such a high quality product at a value price-point. 19 of 20 people found the following review helpful. So Far...Nice!!! Happy!!! By M. Great Receiver, Great Price By Woots The reason to get this receiver over the 605 is the step up to 3 hdmi inputs and THX certification. The power consumption of this unit is more efficient then the 805 and 605. This unit was built after those 2 other models. This isn't the lonely middle child, it shines on its own. There is also a slew of issues this receiver does not exhibit that the 805 has problems with (check AVS forums for details) HDMI video looks great, 7.1 sound great! Price is great! :) 45 of 47 people found the following review helpful. Gotta have * 3 * HDMI 1.3 inputs By Abhilash Nambiar I've had this AV Receiver for 2 weeks now. It plays nicely with my Samsung LNT-4661 LCD TV, Playstation 3, Motorola DCT6412 cable DVR and PC. I have a 7.1 speaker setup (at the moment it's a jumble of brands - Polk RM8000T front, Infinity Alpha 25ES dipole/bipole surround, Acoustic Research AR303 rear surround and Infinity subwoofer). I think one of the key reasons I chose to go with the SR705 over the SR605 is the fact that it has * 3 * HDMI inputs. It keeps the cabling a little better under control when there's only a single receiver to TV HDMI cable. Also it handles the upconversion of non-HD sources very well with Faroudjia DCDi. I'd say I'd agree with the complexity of setup, but it's easier than it is on a lot of other AV Receivers. It comes with the Audyssey calibration equipment. I haven't done any fancy audiometry to evaluate the accuracy of the automatic calibration but I'm impressed as a listener. It has all the power it needs to fill the room with sound, whether it's classical music, rock or movie soundtrack. I'm happy with my decision. 132 of 151 people found the following review helpful. zone 2 ONLY PLAYS analog input By Anthony Mael I totally agree with all previous reviews but I want to add one detail that totally boggles my mind. When I setup my outdoor speakers I could not get any sound out of them and tried everything. Until I read the trouble shooting section in the manual that states: NO Sound, Zone 2? ONLY COMPONENTS CONNECTED TO ANALOG INPUTS CAN BE PLAYED IN ZONE 2" so if by chance you want to use your XM/Serius MP3 digital player in multiple zones, you cant! IPOD connected? nope that wont work either. I ended up running RCA cables into the receiver from my MP3 player (weak sauce considering what i just paid for this thing). I just upgraded from an old Yamaha that did this just fine. I am not going to return it because i am pretty much invested in the thing now. If I had to do it over again I would like to have known this up front. I am still in shock... See all 178 customer reviews...

So let's get started with the review. PRESENTATION The box is huge, so you know just by looking at it you're purchasing something serious. Despite the box arrived pretty damaged, the system itself was unharmed. The speakers are definitely sturdy, well-built and looks like quality ones, only the protective grids are made in plastic and look somewhat cheap. The receiver looks elegant, giving the sensation of being a lot more expensive. Subwoofer is big but not that much, so it can fit almost anywhere in the room. Installation is very easy since all speakers, speaker inputs and cables are color-coded, so it's very difficult to do it wrong. AUDIO Overall, my listening experience so far has been of pure joy. The sound of its 7.1 channels fill the room with great clarity and power. Movies sound amazing, my current demo disc is the Inception Blu-ray, using "Direct" mode or "THX Cinema". The bass is deep, and easily fills the whole room. Dialogs sound clear and natural and surround effects are as immersive as they get. With music is still very good, but not that great. Anyway, this can't be blamed on the system quality, but rather in the configuration, since for music is always better having big main speakers and not small speakers with a good subwoofer. But again, music still sounds very, very good. The volume is enough to fill a small to mid-sized room, and with enough, I mean it can get very, very loud, enough to have all your neighbors complaining about it, specially if you live in an apartment. But I bet you won't resist the temptation to listen your movies at THX reference volume level, even if it may get too loud. VIDEO The video is pretty good but somewhat lacks the same quality level than audio. Upconversion is decent but tends to slightly deform standard definition broadcasts. Overall, the best way is setting the video resolution "as is". But with HD signals, you won't find the slightest reason to complain. RECEIVER Yes, as everybody said before, the receiver runs hot. Very hot, specially at high volume levels (heat depends entirely of volume level, actually), so you have to be very careful about where you're fitting this in. It must be well ventilated, and avoid setting it on poorly-vented enclosed cabinets. Anyway, about its features, what can I say? It has so many processing modes, chances are you won't ever use some of them. Virtually there aren't any audio formats this unit can't decode, or video signals it doesn't support (including 3D). And there are so many ways to process the same signal, you may have fun for hours trying to test all of them (if you want to take your time, of course). Audyssey calibration is great, it configures the audio to achieve optimal sound performance according to room acoustics, all by itself. Of course, if you're a bit picky like me, you may want to tweak resulting settings a bit. Cables are a bit on the thin side, so if you don't feel comfortable with the included ones, you won't have a problem replacing them with thicker ones, yet the included ones seem to do their job pretty good. Also, you may wonder, why buy this system instead of the cheaper 7300, 6300 or such? (they even include an ipod dock that this model don't, for reasons beyond my understanding) The answer is simple: This system has remarkably better speakers, and the THX features are actually pretty useful, adding several tweaks and improvements. So, overall, this is a great system with an unbeatable value. For its price, you may try assembling your home theater with separate components, but you won't get even close to the sound quality and features of this system. 18 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Japanese Attention to Detail By Bob If you are going to spend big bucks on a large screen TV, why not get a good quality audio system too. Any of them will beat TV speakers. Given the amount of time most people use their TV, would encourage others to get a good audio system if they can afford it. This thing brings a whole new dimension to movies as well as other programming. So far, have the center and front speakers hooked up along with the sub woofer. Like the adjustable active sub woofer volume knob. Have more speaker wire on the way for the long wire runs on my side and rear speakers. Am not using HDMI cables on my standard definition system yet. Next, will begin mounting more speakers with the Sanus mount system. The clear and deep sound quality of this powerful 1200 watt system is great for the money- as many reputable online review sources said. The powered (110 volt) 290 watt subwoofer will make the floor shake, windows rattle and my cat head for cover. One can crank up the volume to the point where the house is vibrating but it still maintains clarity and quality sound. They include cheap little plastic protective pads to keep the sub woofer from marking floors. After watching a James Bond movie with it, believe the 10" sub woofer, that is pointed straight down, was designed so viewers could feel explosions and such for it sure shakes the floorboards. It gives one a sense of being right in the action scenes when you can actually feel the movie. All of the wires are fully color coded making it easy to hook up with no mistakes. It would be hard to be unable to get this system up and running properly if you pay attention to the easy set up guide. Consumer Reports rated the Onkyo 5100 model that this system recently replaced their highest rated choice for a home theater system. It was the only model that they rated "very good" for sound quality. All of the rest only rated "good" per their opinion. This 5200 model is a new release to replace their 5100 system. Wonder just how many systems CR tested total. You can't go too far wrong here for high sound quality at a budget price. One review source said Onkyo consistently beats other brands. My goal was high quality sound and realism at a reasonable price. Will add extras (blu-ray player...) after I have the system set up and properly tuned with their included syncronization mic system that automatically adjusts the system for each unique application, room size, etc. Everything about this HTIB is big including the large, heavy box it comes in. Physics is physics- that's how they get the clear, deep, high quality sound out of the sound chambers. All of the speakers have a real wood grain laminate exterior finish- look good. There are numerous higher priced Onkyo home theater systems and one lower priced model than this one. Oct. 6, '09: Consumer Reports has now put this one- the Onkyo 5200 system in their number one spot with a Yamaha YHT-591 model second at $600 and a cheaper Yamaha YHT-391 ($300) in third place. They have these three systems rated "very good" for sound quality currently. Been enjoying mine about everyday now. Especially using it for XM music from my Direct TV satellite connection. Am now working on getting a good old fashion TV antenna 34' feet into the air with a powered pre amplifer on it for all of my regional broadcast stations. The amplified rabbit ears have to go with what's available free off the airways nowadays. Nov. 13, 2009: Am definitely getting my money worth out of this system. Use it a lot for XM music. Usually last less than five minutes before I switch from TV speakers to the home theater system and turn off the TV- great sound quality. There is no comparison with TV speakers. It is comparable to a high quality stereo system. Dec. 9 2009: Consumer Reports now has the Onkyo 7200 model ($800) in 1st place with the 5200 model in 2nd. They rated the Yamaha YHT-391

Onkyo TX-SR806 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black): A Mid-Range Receiver Breaking into High-End Territory with Advanced High-Def Audio and Video Processing The Onkyo TX-SR806 occupies a unique position in the Onkyo line-up. Onkyo classes it as a mid-range A/V receiver. But with its advanced capabilities and THX Ultra2 Plus certification, it's a worthy challenger for high-end status. Built with high-definition entertainment in mind, the TX-SR806 accommodates up to five HDMI™ sources that can handle both 1080p video and studio master-quality surround sound. That's more high-def sources than you'll find on any other Onkyo A/V receiver. If that weren't enough, onboard Faroudja DCDi Cinema™ scales all standard definition sources to 1080p for HDMI output, or to 1080i for component video output. Endowed with the amplification power and dependability expected from an Onkyo A/V receiver, the TX-SR806 stands out as a natural choice for high performance home theater. Superior Performance and Reliability Includes Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding To ensure that all mid-range and high-end A/V receivers in Onkyo's 2008 line-up meet THX's comprehensive performance standards, THX engineers spend countless hours testing and analyzing sound quality, usability, and interoperability for each model. This enduring relationship between Onkyo and THX guarantees even greater reliability and quality from certified A/V receivers. The 2008 range features two new THX standards: THX® Ultra2 Plus™ and THX® Select2 Plus™. These standards include THX® Loudness Plus™, which enables home theater audiences to experience rich detail and ambient sound in a surround mix at any volume level. Advanced Faroudja Video Processing with 1080p/1080i Upscaling The Faroudja name is synonymous with high-quality video processing. The Faroudja technologies incorporated into Onkyo's 2008 A/V receiver range give you the power to bring out the best from both high-definition and standard-definition video content. The Faroudja DCDi Edge™ video processor converts interlaced video signals to progressive scan signals and effectively eliminates video artifacts from HDTV images. The Faroudja DCDi Cinema™ video processor is a more sophisticated version that drastically reduces video noise without sacrificing image quality and sharpness. Both processors can scale standard-definition sources up to 1080i--and DCDi Cinema can additionally upscale to 1080p--for output to HDTVs. This system features a high-bandwidth processor capable of transferring 1080p (Ver. 1.3a/Deep Color, x.v. Color) through the HDMI output; and 1080i HD upconversion is achieved with a powerful Faroudja DCDi processing chip. HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. With playback specifications that meet the standards of professionals, it features HD component video (2x inputs/1x output) switching for high-resolution low-distortion video reproduction. Audyssey Technologies for the Ideal Listening Environment Onkyo A/V receivers use Audyssey's MultEQ™ XT, MultEQ™, or 2EQ™ to counter distortion in dedicated home theaters. All of these solutions focus on the frequency response and time domain (where most of the problems lie) across the entire listening area. The results are immediately obvious--a clear, well-balanced and natural sound. The 2008 A/V receiver range features two new Audyssey technologies: (1) Dynamic EQ™, which selects the best frequency response and surround levels moment-by-moment, for the best listening experience at any volume; and (2) Dynamic Volume™, which maintains the desired listening level for all content while optimizing the dynamic range. Bi-Amping Capability Taking a cue from the world of high-end audio, you'll find bi-amping capabilities in Onkyo's 2008 line-up. This allows for a number of different home theater set-ups beyond the standard surround-sound configurations. Compatible front speakers can be bi-amped for separate tweeter and woofer inputs. For the nontechnicaly advanced and new comers everything is color coded. When it came to setting up the speakers I came into a small problem. A slight error on my part. So I hope this advice helps others when setting up the speakers. This receiver comes with a mic that is used to electronicaly test the distance from each speaker to 1 of 6 seating positions one at a time to ensure best sound in all 6 seating positions. When using the set up mic to automatically adjust your speaker setting without having to do it manually make sure the surround speakers from your previous 5.1 plug into the "surround" speaker outputs NOT the "Back surround" speakers. The Back surround is for a 7.1 connection which I still need to upgrade to. If you plug them in the wrong outputs of the receiver you will get an error message while performing the auto speaker set up. This will also cause a problem if you try to manually set up the speakers too. Aside from that small mishap- sounds great easy set up- self explanatory remote- and the reason I bought it, the THX certification. The THX certification basically means Onkyo paid Lucas to certify that the equipment meets the THX standards. There are several units on the market that might meet the THX lever of quality but unless products pay for the certification we wont know. To me this shows Onkyo cares about letting you know what you are getting. Some people don't need or want this. If this is you Id suggest looking for a model or 2 down the line. This certification is why this unit has the sticker price it does. This unit also has 5 HDMI inputs to plug all sorts of HDMI items in like Xbox 360, PS3, a Blu Player ETC... and one HDMI out to connect to the TV. I also like the blue backlite volume knob and the green display on the face of the unit. If you connect the HDMI out there is a on screen option that allows you the visibility of reading off your TV set vs. the small display screen on the unit. This is good when setting up the speakers. This unit also reads several of upgrade audio options found on the Blu DVDs. UPDATE 4/27/09 A few things to add... when connecting electronics in through the HDMI you can choose how it will be displayed when it leaves the receiver and shown on the screen. In the options I selected to have all images displayed as 1080i since that is the native resolution picture my current TV supports. So my 360 and blu ray all have their images altered via the receiver to the native resolution my screen can handle over all offering a better image. (only through HDMI) I can also set each sound format (DTS-HD, DOLBY DIGITAL, Dolby TRU HD, ETC.) to be automatically switched to the sound preset of my choosing offered by the receiver. For example NOT THAT I WOULD EVRE DO THIS but if my Blu Disk had a Dolby TRU HD soundtrack I could set my receiver to send the signal out in mono. Doing so will automatically adjust every Dolby TRU HD soundtrack to mono. This is good if you have a specific sound option avail on the receiver you tent to enjoy most. The amp will make a slight click noise to let you know it switched over and boom you get the sound option you want vs reaching for the remote and searching for the sound option you desire. Also each input, Game, DVD, Tape, CD etc. has its own memory. So whatever you set for the DVD option will not be automatically applied to the game option. This allows me to pick my favorite sound options for each input. You can also set the default volume setting when you turn the receiver on. So if you shut it off without turning it down it will not turn on at the last volume but rather the preset desired volume. You can also select the volume of how you "mute". Either 50% of the current volume or completely off. You can also pick any volume level between the lowest and the highest available. If you dont

Schillinger I did a lot of research (including Consumer Reports) and settled on this Onkyo as the best compromise between performance and price. I've had it 2 weeks now and am very happy. The auto setup function works better than a much-more expensive Denon unit I set up for a friend. I used the microphone (included) to measure speaker levels at 3 different locations in the room and the Onkyo did everything else. (It's connected to some older Polk speakers-- they sound so much better through this amp!) I bought this primarily to process audio from our new BluRay player and the Onkyo does an outstanding job. The sound is better than in most movie theaters! Especially BluRay DTS or HD Master. Wish more movies were recorded in these formats. We also have our DirecTV HD DVR hooked up to the Onkyo. Audio and video travel through the HDMI Cables, so there's no need to hook up audio separately. Very nice and a feature you will find missing from some more expensive amps. The amp does get very warm. I put a small fan in the back of the cabinet and that seems to help. BTW although this is a 5.1 channel amp is DOES support 7.1 if you want the 2 extra rear speakers... you just have to hook it up to your old amp (or any cheap 2-channel amp) and process those 2 channels that way. The 7.1 decoding IS built into this box. I am not using the "Zone 2" feature but it's very unusual to have that in a receiver in this price range. You can watch a movie in one room while someone else listens to an iPod or FM in another room. I don't think you can find a better receiver in this price range (and keep an eye on the price-- it's falling!) 47 of 47 people found the following review helpful. Good but not ideal for a variety of components By M. Klimp I am replacing my 17 year old Onkyo receiver and bought this after a bit of research. Much improved over the years and sounds better than the old unit. I love the sound and the easy setup. The instruction manual is great. I have a variety of components, some HDMI, some composite video, some digital video, etc. As mentioned in other reviews, this unit will only output the same format that is input. This means that if you have composite video in, you will need to output composite video. For my situation, this meant a variety of output cables and additional button pressing when switching between components (e.g. cable box to DVD player). Considering the cost of cables, I decided to go with the TX-SR607 because it converts all inputs to HDMI output. This means no adjustments to the TV input when switching components and no additional cables. Wish I knew this before I ordered the product and thought I would share my experience. If all of my components were HDMI I would certainly choose this receiver. 31 of 31 people found the following review helpful. Great reciever, easy setup, less cables By jray Just got this TX-SR507 set up. Here are some initial impressions. The setup is very easy and fast. Had all the connections complete in less than 15 minutes. Despite some misinformation out there this receiever is not HDMI passthrough for audio. Instead it has HDMI repeater technology. This is way way better than pass through. What this HDMI repeater technology allows you to do is to run a SINGLE HDMI cable from each source (cable box, blueray, dvd player, roku box, or any other device that has hdmi out) to the reciever (you can hook up all the items into this as its loaded with HDMI inputs. From the receiver you run a SINGLE HDMI cable to your TV. Meanwhile the audio is processed by the reciever and sent out to your surround sound system. No additional toslink or analog cables needed. This feature alone is worth the extra to buy this unit. If it was only HDMI passthrough you would need to run separate cables for your surround sound in addition to the HDMI to get your audio output from the reciever to your

I must say, this has to be one of the most sophisticated pieces of electronic equipment that I've ever owned. I don't even know where to begin. Did I mention this thing is amazing? I was running a Bose Lifestyle 48 prior to this, but when I finally decided to make the most of HDMI connections, I shelved the Bose and stepped up to the ONKYO. What a breath of fresh air! There are so many features of the TX-NR906 that I like. Starting with the remote control--I'm sure it's common practice nowadays for receiver remotes to be fairly smart, but this guy is really bright. I've managed to teach it all the commands from my three main remote controls (TV, BD & CD Players), more or less, just by pointing the controllers at each other and clicking. I'm referring to commands that aren't usually part of a universal controller's arsenal. The large number of connection choices are really coming in handy, as well. I'm maxing out the HDMI inputs and have one of the two outputs connected to my TV. There's a ton of digital audio options as well. The front panel offers a number of connection choices, including a USB port for playing MP3s. Another aspect of this receiver that I really like is the fact that this system not only sounds phenomenal when playing movies, but sounds equally as incredible playing CDs or listening to music from my PC. With previous systems it always seemed like one was better than the other, but with the TX-NR906, I really feels like I'm getting audiophile quality sound from all components. Oh yeah, did I mention? HD FM radio sounds phenomenal! I don't have XM or Sirius yet, but that's on the short list of near term upgrades. There's an antennae connection for both. This receiver is the hub of my home theater. Putting things in perspective, my setup includes a Samsung LN46A750 46-Inch 1080p DLNA LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color, Panasonic DMP-BD30K 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player, a Sony 5-Disc Carousel CD Player, Dell XPS Pentium D 3.0 GHz/3.0 GB RAM/VisionTek Radeon HD4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card, Playstation 3 80GB, Motorola digital cable box/DVR , and Aperion Audio's Intimus 5T Hybrid HD speaker system. All this, combined with the TX-NR906, really sounds and looks incredible. I'm utilizing HDMI for video on all components. I'm also supplementing the digital cable box's audio with a coaxial cable. Similarly, I'm augmenting the BD Player's audio by connecting audio cables via the multichannel jacks. I bought the TX-NR906 in October 2008 and so far, I haven't found anything I dislike. The only minor thing I will point out is with the remote control. When you are teaching it commands from your other remotes, you might have to try it a couple of times. At first, I thought that some of the commands weren't going to be able to be taught, but I stuck with it and eventually was able to teach it all commands. No big deal, just don't give up if it doesn't work right away. Whether you're watching HD TV, listening to your favorite music, watching the latest release on Blu-Ray, or playing the hottest shooter on your PC or PS3--if you have the money, this receiver is the perfect addition to any home theater. 38 of 45 people found the following review helpful. Best Bang for the Buck in Next-Gen Home Theater Receivers By Kevin Stewardson I'll start by saying I'm not an Audiophile. I just wanted a decent mid-range receiver that does all the latest lossless audio formats and has 7.1 channels so it's ready to take advantage of BluRay as that format evolves. So my primary focus is on a system that plays audio for movies and video games as it's primary function. Currently I have this receiver setup in a 5.1 configuration since that's the type of receiver it replaced. I have more speakers on order to expand it out but to be honest, right now if you're building a home theater from scratch, you only need 5.1 . The 7.1 specs aren't really supported yet and DVDs and Playstation/Xbox are all 5.1, so if you're starting from scratch save some money and setup for 5.1 first and expand as support grows. I used the automated speaker calibration feature to setup all the channels This is where you place the provided mic at ear level at three different listener positions. The receiver then sends out tones which will drive you and your dog nuts for about 15 minutes while the entire process goes on. Once it was done however, I was/am very pleased with the results. I've heard some people ask about humming, i can detect no humming. I have some WiFi equipment close by which is 2.5 ghz and so far have not heard any humming. Some other people have said the Receiver runs hot to which I would ask those people, is this your first receiver? They do run hot ! This one runs no hotter than the old one i replaced from a different manufacturer so as far as I'm concerned, the heat issue is normal. I have it in a small component rack that's enclosed on the sides and back with a door on the front, it's got maybe half an inch space around the sides and 2 inches of space on top and so far everything is good. The back has tons of inputs, but the primary reason I waited for the 606 over the previous model is the number of HDMI ports, the next generation audio/video cable which is a requirement for full resolution BluRay playback They're rev 1.3a to support all the latest audio formats as well (none of which are currently supported by the discs themselves yet though). The receiver will pass through a 1080p signal from a BluRay or other high def video source. If you feed it a standard def 480i video source, it will upscale it to 1080i or 720p. It does a decent job but i would say upscaling isn't the receivers strong point, it does an acceptable job though. But lets face it, Onkyo doesn't build TV's, their bread and butter isn't video, it's audio. I'm pleased with the performance and the styling of the receiver, it's just very basic and sleek. No built in graphical user interface and all that other nonsense that receivers 3x this price but no more times the performance come equipped with. This receiver for a mid end system for movies and video games just really can't be matched in terms of performance per dollar spent I have matched this receiver with some Polk Audio speakers. Specifically i have a Polk CSi3 center channel and six Polk RTi4 bookshelf speakers (all of which you can find at great prices here on Amazon where I ordered them from) and I am very very happy with the results. The Polk speakers like the Onkyo 606 receiver are over achievers for their price point, so they match together extremely well. The only thing I have left to say is buy it, I wouldn't hesitate recommending this receiver to anyone looking for a solid movie/video game home theater experience. 143 of 147 people found the following review helpful. One solution to HDMI buzz By John Winters Other reviews cover this receiver with excellent detail (setup, sound, etc.) and I agree with most comments. This is a great unit for the money. For instance, you can use Audyssey DSX or Dolby Pro Logic IIz to create an expanded, more immersive 9-channel soundstage for games and movies. Alternatively, you can supplement one of several different 7.2-channel set-ups in your main room with 2-channel sound in a second room. Along with the assurance of THX Ultra2 Plus certification, the TX-NR1007 brings greater convergence to your home entertainment. Audio files from a networked PC or streaming internet radio can be fed to the receiver, and then processed and output with customary Onkyo power and fidelity. Audyssey MultiEQ XT ensures a well-balanced, room-matching speaker set-up, while ISF video calibration and 1080p upscaling via Faroudja DCDi Cinema work to get the most out of your video sources. Merely cherry-picking the specs, though, doesn’t do justice to this mighty receiver-we suggest giving it an audition and letting your own eyes and ears be the judge.

This is my 5th Onkyo receiver in about 9 years or so. I've upgraded for feature set rather than anything being 'wrong' with the prior models I've had. This is the highest end model I've purchases thus far. Hopefully I'll be able to keep this one around for quite a while. It's more than I needed but I was tired of upgrading and wanted something with enough HDMI inputs and features that I wouldn't get the itch. I have a standard 5.1 surround system for speakers so I am not using the Audyssey DSX or ProLogic IIz functionality. Nor am I using the multiple zones at this time so I have no comment on that functionality. Things I like: Audyssey MultiXT - I've had versions of Audyssey in all but maybe the first Onkyo receiver I've had. I don't know whether they changed something or I've gotten better at setting my HT system up properly but after running through the Audyssey speaker setup on this receiver everything sounded much more balanced and even than the setup I had gotten with my previous TX-SR705 The 'sweet spot' is wider and I'm not getting the slight tonal shift as audio moves from one speaker to the next across the front speakers like I used to. Audyssey Dynamic Volume - This is a fantastic feature! All of my audio for everything is piped through this receiver, whether I'm watching TV, Movies, Music or playing games. With my previous receivers I was always fumbling for the volume when I was watching a show and the commercials came on since they were so much louder. I don't have to do that any more. I have the Dynamic Volume feature set to Light. It makes soft passages loud enough to hear and tones down loud passages, and when the commercials come on they aren't any louder than the tv show I was watching. I do have one quibble with it There doesn't seem to be a feature to turn it off/on based on the source you've selected. Having this feature on when listening to music is a not a good thing. This isn't a problem with Audyssey, rather an oversight on Onkyo's part. THX Loudness - I've never really used the THX audio modes of my previous receivers much. Primarly because in order to get the sound approaching that in a theater THX recommends listening at reference volume. There are two problems with that. I live in an apartment and I like not to bleed from my ears. The THX Loudness feature works kinda like the Audyssey Dynamic volume. I find that on some movies the THX method sounds better to me than the Audyssey Dynamic Volume. Internet radio, Pandora and streaming - The interface for this could use some work (it looks like something from the 90's) but I really like the network features. Streaming audio from my PC in the office is more convenient with this than firing up the Xbox or PS3 and it's one less peice of electronics I have to have running I also like that the Onkyo will wake up my office pc if it is sleeping when I go to stream audio. I don't know if this is something with my pc that allows this or not but it is convenient. Things I don't like - I thought my TX-SR705 was loud when it did audio or HDMI switching. This is louder. I'm hoping it's due to beefier switching components. Fortunately this is only an issue at the beginning of movies where they show previews and don't steal me warnings. Also on cable when watching non-movie channels and the commercials have been broadcast in different audio then the show. One time issue with zero audio. I was watching a tv show and changed channels. After changing the channel I had zero audio. I thought it was the channel but changing the channel back or selecting a different source (tuner) didn't fix it. I was able to fix it by unplugging the receiver for about 5 seconds and plugging it back in This was disturbing but it hasn't happened since then. If it does I'll have to call Onkyo and find out.
