Did well for one week, then passed DHA (Southern MD, USA) The sound of my ten year old Onkyo TX-DS474 was now worse and I had read very good reviews of the Onkyo SR 507, so decided to pre-order the new SR 508. It came from Amazon on April 29. I used the built-in equalizer for the speakers connected to the receiver with the new HDMI v1.4 cables and connected to my dish satellite receiver, my Panasonic BluRay DVD player and my Panasonic HDTV to adjust. The sound was excellent. Before we had the volume too high for the dialogue to follow a few gigs, otherwise it was not clear, with SR 508 the noise was so much clearer that we can keep the volume much lower. After about three days, I noticed that although I would assign the entry of the cabin / SAT receiver indicated iPod (now iPod dock connected to the receiver), but the sound still came through the window sat Strange, but no problem. So exactly one week after receipt by the recipient in the middle of watching a show that went picture and sound empty. No pushing various buttons on the remote would work. My first reaction was a bad HDMI cable, so I changed it. Nothing. I switched to the DVD player, but once again empty. So I connected the satellite receiver and DVD player directly to the TV to separate HDMI cables, turned on the TV speakers and the TV works again. It is clear, SR 508 suddenly failed, and also works as a crossing. I return the kit from Amazon for replacement. If the replacement works well for a reasonable time, I will update this review. Onkyo I chose in part because of its characteristic RIHD in collaboration with Panasonic. In my experience, that only works well, and turn on BluRay DVD player is the receiver directly to DVD. But do not turn off automatically returns to the cabin / Sat Turn off the TV also turns off the Onkyo, but not vice versa. You still have to turn off the Onkyo receiver separately. One of the unexpected problems with the receiver input in Zone 2 only works with an analog signal. In my DS-474, I put the output of the B word in my screened in porch to listen to a CD or TV there. Speakers B digital work. Now all my signal inputs for zone 2 are digital, it seems that the Zone 2 feature is useless. Bummer! I should add that I am not techie at all, so there may be work arounds that I do not know! Update # 1: The unit that failed on Thursday night, I ordered a replacement online from Amazon at noon on Fridays, which came to my house on Saturday, about 14:00. I'm sure everyone agrees that this is excellent customer service from Amazon. I have now (Sunday) installed the replacement unit and yet it seems to work much longer continues to do, I will add a second update and change my rating of four stars. I remain disappointed that Zone 2 is not digital, so not 5 stars. Update # 2: Four days after the installation of the second receiver, has also failed the same way. However, the bottom of the page "Troubleshooting" in the manual, I found the following comment: ". The AV receiver contains a microcomputer for signal processing and control functions in a very rare, severe interference, noise from a external source or static electricity may be blocked. In the unlikely event this happens, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, wait at least five seconds, then reconnect it. "It worked and he crashed again in the last ten days. But I certainly disagree with the "rare circumstances" and "probable" and I can not imagine a special event that may have caused my receiver in a cabinet with the power behind it, so out it is very difficult. That said, the sound of the receiver is very clear that if this issue does not often happen, I will be happy.

There are also some pictures of my installation for this device and the OSD (which I could not find), including the overlap HDMI: [...] Unfortunately, the first one I bought from Amazon (ie warehouse) was poor, has a whistle / click on the two front speakers. They were really making the return, and sent me another hitherto been perfect .. For starters, here is a list of my gear: Epson 8500 Axiom M60v2, VP150 and QS8s for surround, surround back (7 channels) Epik Castle theater dedicated subwoofer, treatments ~ 20x17 room (NO stage to just blast) HTPC w / 5500 series graphics card (HD bitstream) I come from a Pioneer 1018, AVR 500 is one U.S. dollar ~ ~ 2-3 years old. This is a good AVR and I'm pleased with him, the main reasons for my upgrade to the OSD (all my equipment is behind me in a closet, I can not see which mode / volume / etc I am in the Pioneer on the screen and drives me crazy), better room correction EQ balancing and dual sub-correction. Pioneer also supports HD sound, so consistent between systems, and speakers (everything is the same). First off, for those who have read the 3008/5008 thread, I'm on my second 3008, the first sent a "hum / buzz" in the two front speakers (L / R) had. So my first impression was "how about some QC". 2nd AVR works fine so far, is the buzzing / humming away .. When I got the AVR, I upgraded the firmware to the latest available. I did it again and again via USB over the network. Both times it took a long time to finish (30 + minutes), but went without problems. As such, I can not access the "old" firmware upgrades comment or what the "flat". After running the firmware update, I then ran over Audessey simple process lasted approximately 1-1.5 hours 8-position to measure and calculate the results. The calculation took much longer than I am (10 minutes) is expected, the calculation of the Pioneer space was much faster (but much less demanding). As you can see, I got on the microphone on my bench Audessey photography with painting blue ribbon. I think the band adds a nice "color" and "transparency" to the final calculations EQ. In any case .. At the hearing. I have the standard audio modes, a feature that I did not know that I wanted, but man, without which I could not now live. For those who do not know, you can choose the default mode for different types of stereo audio output with 2.1, TrueHD is output to 7.1 THX cinema mode, etc. If this is all set switching between modes automatically. Really nice to have if you a source (HTPC) to play, tons of different types of audio / video files! I'm in Stereo 2.1 1 and HD audio codecs to 71 THX Cinema mode. The first thing I played was the music. Basso was significantly / noticeably better (depending on source material). From the main listening position, was narrow, clear, and very easy to listen to. In addition, the stereo separation better, there is a "sense of place" much higher with the new AVR. You do not know how to explain it, but I am very satisfied with the results. Adjust the volume in a little 'higher (apparently I am a bowed head, I like the strongest reference), but it was my only listen to tweak. The music was much more "easy" to listen to, probably because some of the rings or smearing processed by the room correction software in the 3008th Regardless, very happy with the music! Video .. I've seen a few movies since installation (I did not sleep much), and all of them have been "improved" to "much better" Pioneer. Again, the base so much better that it's really hard to tell if it is causing everything else to "sound better" for the environment, many large (not in a bad way, just more.

If you really screw it up for the test is not as high as I would have liked. A small distorton creep at high volumes. As a complement to a large system with a pair of woofers that play very well at low frequencies, it has an excellent working don? T. But as a stand-alone woofer I think some were a bit disappointed. Can control the other complaint I have is that the grill really rattle and buzz around the 120 hertz.I as volume control and x-over. A great SW for the price of TMStyles Believe it or not, I had never owned a subwoofer until I bought "Onkyo SWK204" after researching what I might need to complete my sound system after adding a new Panasonic Plasma HDTV, a Sony Blu - Ray, and a new Sony receiver after one week of listening to the SW in my house, I am happy with the purchase. The "Onkyo SWK204" bass reflex active subwoofer has a built-in 230 watt amplifier, which is more than adequate for home theater system I installed in my living room / family room. It's a 10 "cone subwoofer attractive but not intrusive in a simple black with silver cone weighs 26 pounds and strong enough. I'm not techy so I'll just say that with so many of the new movie soundtrack that reflects the low frequency effects (LFE), I was amazed at the difference that SW did in my home entertainment enjoyment. It has a frequency response from 25 Hz to 150 Hz and a variable crossover (50Hz-200Hz), controlled by a cross-over rate control, along with the usual volume control and a power-on mode is no doubt Standy better and more powerful subwoofers out and , of course, pay for advanced features. By Seung Chun sub I bought this knowing you probably will not be great, but will likely do the job. My front and rear speakers are two ways to 8-inch speaker and is exposed to a broad, but I wanted something to round out the bottom a little better. The music sounds great, but the LFE for movies is very weak. My biggest annoyance with this sub is the Auto Start. There is no replacement function / of. When I watch TV on a quiet afternoon, I rarely have enough TV for the sub to turn happens when it detects enough bass. That's the problem. If you look at something without low for some time, the sub turned off. I like listening to a continuous series / show, if only a bit low, then the sudden drop off in bass is very annoying. For example, a male voice sound normal, then the sub from a wtf moment when I, as all voices change pitch. So when there is sufficient noise to the back of sub to change the timbre changes everything back to normal. I would not buy these again sub for this reason. All 85 reviews ....

Almost Perfect By Scott All in all I am very happy with this system, but I wanted it a 4.5 rating. - Sound quality is very good, but the correct sound mode for a source is necessary. - Bass is incredible, I can feel the vibrations throughout the house, rich bass when playing music. - Many input options, I could connect any AV equipment I've ever owned. - Many different sound settings for a particular source will sound as you want - Audyssey was easy to use to configure the sound settings for my room and speaker setup I only have three disappointments with this system, but they are quite low. - It is not to convert non-HDMI inputs for HDMI, which I had not thought of this when they buy, and I wish I had. - The subwoofer is a quiet electric hum, as power lines or old fluorescent tubes. - OSD only works with HDTV resolution signals 480, 720, 1080 Just annoying, because my projector is 1280 x 800 11 of 11 people found this helpful great buy for the drift that I do not really expect what happened to the S5400. I did not have a surround sound setup time, and my last home theater in a box was disappointing, but I had heard good things about the S5300, and when I went to buy one, j ', I saw a newer version was released. From what I understand, the S5400 is almost the same as the S5300 has the added advantage of Audyssey microphone calibrator. For someone who knows nothing about audio calibration, can not really difficult. Simply connect the microphone and let Audyssey good enough to take care of the rest. Sonically, no complaints. Sounds good to very good for movies and music. I forgot how much I missed in the movies, no surround-sound is, and friends and family love. I was not able to do a 7.1 setup because of lack of space, so for a while, I had the system in a 5.1 The configuration that was before I realized I could configure the Dolby Pro Logic IIz What this means is that it allows you to take back and walk over them the front speakers as front-discharge. By establishing PLIIz settings (which actually can be done by Audyssey) adds a sense of time allows an audio sound like more airy, and the transfer of certain channels of audio over your head, so if you're watching a movie with helicopters or rain or whatever, I do know that on your head as you naturally instead of in front or behind you at ear level. Its great, and I saw a couple of movies that really shone. As others have mentioned, installation is easy. Colored cables that you know what goes where, and assembly was a piece of cake. Find cheap speaker stands for my surroundings were a bit complicated, but I ended up going with about $ 15 Walmart brand and using an adhesive that comes with the speakers for them to sit on stand It sounds risky, but are more stable than you might think. The speakers, subwoofers, and receivers were all much bigger than I thought they would be. After briefly overwhelmed, I started working on the system configuration and finished faster than expected, although I am a beginner, I found this system very easy to configure. Janssen I ordered the amp on a whim as a companion for an Onkyo DX-7555 (single disc "audiophile" CD players) because they share a sophistocated remote system. I owned and still own, a somewhat esoteric Audiolab 8000S which I consider to be sonically flawless and provides a high degree of flexibility despite the fact that almost 15 years old and not really expect the Onkyo to be much more than a typical import amp with lots of bells and whistles, but not excellent performance ..... big surprise. This amp is easy to sonic equivalent of my "British handmade" Audiolab is strongly built and very, very musical. A good buy for less than $ 500. Especially rewarding is better than a good MM phono section to let me retire a separate head amp for those rare occasions when only vinyl will do. Moreover, the additional circuitry, while the unit bass / treble / and a subtle "loudness" contains can be circumvented for a "direct" mode, to win the guaranteed essentially a direct wire to your speakers .. very clean and powerful. Great sound, great value for Vouros I bought this amplifier after a very favorable review in the November 6 issue of The Absolute Sound, and I'm really glad I did. The dynamics of the sound reminds me of Sonic Impact (Other class D amplifier), but without the distortion, especially at high frequencies. This amplifier sounds relatively warm, and produces very listenable music with ease and clean the frame with silver looks great, pity the golden color is not available in the U.S., or more powerful.

Wanted to eliminate all the cables and a better video. Add a Blu-ray and Onkyo TX-SR507. This installation is simple, easy-to-HDMI cable. I was on the sound system with XM for my music at home. Recently discovered Pandora, and his love for music and has no control, such as XM is now. I was a little nervous when I saw the previous comments on this issue. If Onkyo receiver has the port, simply plug it into reality. On your iPod / iPhone, make sure that the video is set to widescreen and NTSC and you are all set. Works fine and looks beautiful. My only criticism is the price. I took my purchase comes with the Onkyo TX-SR707. But if I had not, I'm not sure that I bought just because the price is so high for a simple dock. For $ 29 you can buy it in the Dock "official" Apple has an extra USB port. Moreover, it would be more versatile, since it uses a standard audio jack, you can insert it in some small battery powered speakers for a portable solution for playing music loud. The advantages of this is that the dock uses a single cable for power and audio / video, and the glossy black look is nice if you want to mix with the rest of your outfit. Got them all from Amazon. Was able to, $ 25, by storing the IP-A1 renovated. Amazon's prices and service was fantastic, no surprises. These units are all working very well together. The DVD changer shows an improvement over the 10 + year old model. Menus are much faster to load. UP-A1: receiver recognized immediately. Onkyo receiver remote control of your iPod, but not as good as it plays, pauses, stop, fast forward and rewind music and videos fine. But (if I missed something), it will not get back to the menu while playing music. If a menu (say albums), then navigate Onkyo remote control. When the music starts to play up, / down arrows do not act now, and right / left arrow, shift from playlist to playlist. At first I thought the video of the UP-A1 was not my TV via HDMI. But I had disabled the TV out on my iPod. Under Settings / Video to iPod, set the TV out (NTSC format in the U.S.). When a video (again, to go with the Onkyo remote has the problems described above) to play is the only time a video output comes from Onkyo. It looked like you think that resolution would look like an iPod. A very nice feature of the DP-A1 is when you hold the FF. I'm certainly glad I did not buy the device at the same price but much lower-powered by Audio Research. Output power is phenomenal - considerably stronger than 150w for specific channel output from my Sony ES receiver. Or be conservative Yamaha or Sony is misleading. This unit is well finished and looks at home with the rest of my components. It's actually smaller than I expected as well.
