Does exactly what it's supposed to do By T Bass This antenna is designed to be a step-up from the wire antenna that likely came with your system. I use this in a high rise apartment with a steel frame, which wrecks havoc on FM signals. The Terk FM+ does not pull in stations from miles away that you normally wouldn't receive, but local stations that I previously had difficulty keeping static-free now come in crystal clear. If you're looking for an improvement to stations that are within range but need a little improvement, this product is for you. 31 of 32 people found the following review helpful. Decent antenna By D. Laurencic If you already have antenna, this may not be product for you. If you have just piece of wire as FM antenna that usually comes with receiver, then you should get this one. It's nice little multidirectional antenna. I think it works the same or better than T type antenna. So if you need FM antenna and you live in the city, this is the one to buy. You may consider active FM antenna if you need to amplify FM signals. In my case Terk FM+ worked just great. 41 of 49 people found the following review helpful. Unconvinced By Kim Callahan A few months ago I moved to a new apartment - less than five blocks away from my old one. The radio reception in my new location as I discovered though was terrible! Who knew a few blocks would make such a difference?! I looked around at a few different options. I wasn't willing to spend a ton of money because I really don't listen to the radio all that much. Although I had not previously heard of Terk, they seemed to have a good reputation. I settled on the FM+ Indoor FM Antenna for both its price and the Terk reputation. While it may be slightly better than the flimsy contraption that came with my tuner, I didn't find it to be the savior I had hoped for. I still can't get in the station I really want and some others are hit and miss (I was able to tune in these stations at my old apartment). Perhaps I'm just living in a bad area for reception. I have them connected to a Denon AVR-790 receiver. I am thrilled with the results - even though I have an unconventional setup. The living room and kitchen are conected as one 10 x 20 foot room - with a cathedral ceiling. Yikes! This is my first surround sound system, and suffice to say, I was overwhelmed with the many 5.1 choices between the HTIB (Home theater in a box) and all the individual receivers with separate speaker systems. However, I'm not a newbie to great sound. I could join the AARP if I wanted to! Anyways, I finally pulled the trigger and purchased the Klipsch 500 after many months of research online and hearing them at my local electronics warehouse store. The store gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. My requirements were that I needed smaller speakers for the decor and the lack of space. The Klipsch 500 fit the bill. Moreover, the 8 inch powered subwoofer is more than enough ooomph for TV, music, and movies. A nice thunder! My center speaker rests on the TV stand in front of the LCD TV on the Klipsch supplied rubber mat to hold it in place. It's inconspicuous and does the job of keeping the center speaker stationary. I purchased a couple of inexpensive speaker stands for the 2 front speakers. I mounted the 2 rear speakers "in the "kitchen" on the opposite wall that the TV is on. I appreciate that the satellite speakers all come with plastic adjustable wall mounts that you can position toward your ears. I needed the mounts to position the rears horizontally at 8 feet above the floor pointing toward the chairs. I ran my rear speaker wires under the floor in the crawl space to hide them. That helps! The only negative comment I have on the Klipsch 500 is the plastic spring-clip connectors on the back of the speakers. It does seem cheap - and not in a good way. I took off a star on my rating for the features because of that. But they do hold my 18 guage wire just fine. Conversely, I bought and used banana plugs to connect the other end of the speakers to my Denon receiver. That is a more secure connection. Nevertheless it's the sound I was after and the connections just needed to connect. All of them do. I used the easy-to-use Audyssey auto-setup that came with my Denon receiver to balance the sound and voila! Instant home theater! Okay, so it took a little longer than an instant, but the results are just amazing. Consequently, after 2 weeks of listening to the sweet sounds of 5.1 I would not hesitate to recommend the Klipsch 500 to anyone who wants crisp, clear, and big sound! I love em! I really love them! 17 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Awesome Clarity! By AmazonAddict I purchased these Klipsch HD 500s as a package deal with a Yamaha RX-V567BL receiver for my parents. I had tested them out along with some other comparable speakers at a local home audio store. They sounded awesome in the store, but sound even more amazing now that I have them setup and dialed in for their living room. They have amazing clarity and definition, yet still have a very full sound to them. Would highly recommend them to anyone looking for surround sound speakers under $1000. They come with wall mount speaker brackets, but I opted to install them on some generic Atlantic speaker stands I picked up. They are pretty easy to install for those that are comfortable with audio equipment. My best recommendation for those looking for a surround sound package is to go to a store and listen to the different options. Just because speakers are expensive doesn't make them good. And just because someone tells you they are awesome speakers, doesn't mean you should take their word for it. There is always some subjectivity in audio equipment. What one person thinks sounds good, another person may hate. I recommend, though, that you take a listen to these as

Good Basic, but High End Features are Funk By ilande The advantage to this receiver (as well as the 507) is the depth fits most standard cabinets. This was my primary reason for looking at this receiver. I believe Onkyo is a good brand, and this receiver is better than my last, but it suffers in the high end features. The HDMI passthrough is bunk. It does not look at the audio through the HDMI, which I specifically asked about and was misinformed. NO AUDIO THROUGH HDMI! You must attach a seperate audio in cable, which is not a big deal but for two reasons. 1) this receiver only has two optical inputs and one coaxial audio inputs (so only three surround audio inputs, and no popular product right now using optical, so you really only have two surround inputs) and 2) The inputs are not assignable to the HDMI, so you actually only have one optical input that will work while your HDMI pass through is working. Essentially, if you use HDMI through this unit, you are restricted to one optical audio input and the other is dedicated to "CD" so you can run a separate HDMI cable to your TV, but this defeats the entire purpose of HDMI on the receiver. Not a big deal to me, but may be a deal breaker for you. So, to repeat, and summarize, HDMI INPUTS ON RECEIVER ARE NOT FUNCTIONAL ENOUGH FOR YOU TO EFFECTIVELY USE THEM. The price is great. $240 for a receiver with two optical audio inputs and an onkyo name? Works for me. This guy will NOT be future proof, and I will have to replace it if I want to have more than two surround sound sources, but that will be years from now, and I am now wise enough to know that IF YOU WANT TO HAVE TRULY GREAT VIDEO/AUDIO, YOU NEED TO BUILD A DEDICATED CLOSET IN YOUR HOUSE BECAUSE NO TELEVISION CABINET FITS MASSIVE HIGH END COMPONENTS, ONLY CONSUMER VERSIONS WITHOUT THE HIGH END FEATURES. I have my television floating on the wall with a tube running in the wall hiding the wires, and I have a beautiful setup, but I can't find components that will fit! I should have had a built-in placed during construction (NEED LOTS OF DEPTH!) or I should have ran the wires to the closet and dedicated it, but then you have the problem of IR-signals... Also, don't buy this unit for the microphone. It doesn't work at all. Perhaps this is because the instructions ask you to place all the speakers on the floor for calibration, and mine are installed flush in the ceiling and are not coming out. Basically the microphone won't work for high end users. Too bad. I'd return it, but I can't get anything better for this price, and if I spend more money ALL of the receivers have a larger depth which will NOT fit into any television stand (and believe me... I looked for over a year!) Great beginning receiver, works well, powers speakers to a reasonably loud volume, high end features are bunk, and you can't use more than two surround sources with this guy. Hope this helps! 13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Not happy By R. Rand It's my own fault. I didn't fully understand all the technical terms. The unit has pass through HDMI connections which require additional audio connections to the component inputs from the TV to the receiver. Splitters are required because there is only one audio output from the TV and three component devices supported. I wanted to avoid the extra audio cables. Should have purchased a different (more expensive) model. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. great product at a great price By S. Zimmerman can't complain about the purchase. easy setup...good features. the only downside is that it doesn't convert component to hdmi so you have to run a component cable as well as hdmi to your tv. for me this won't be a problem as soon as i upgrade my dvd player to one with hdmi out. the person that complained about buying extra cables...well it's pretty simple. if you wan't digital surround sound you need some sort

By GreggBzz I did a lot of research, like most of you will do, and determined that this was the best I could do with my budget. My primary concerns were sound quality and getting enough power for a large room (19' x 20') This does well in those regards, while you sacrifice in other areas. For this price you can't have everything! Pros: The components seem quality built. The receiver is heavy and well ventilated. The speakers are heavy and wooden. Everything is just sturdy. It shipped well packed in a heavy box. The amplifier itself is the same circuitry and power rating you'll find in more expensive Denon receivers, like the 591 and 1611. From what I gather it's THD and power compare well with more expensive models. It certainly does a good job with the included speakers. It will get ridiculous house party loud, no worries. The HDMI inputs gave no problems. Denon is sometimes noted for handshake problems, but I did not encounter any. I have a Motorola DVR, a Sony BDP-S570 blu-ray and a Samsung PNC50C450 and they all sync up perfectly. I did the latest firmware updates on each device prior to the Denon arriving. The sound is pretty tweak-able, if you have the patience. More on that later. The included speaker wires are long. Cons: Setting this thing up is tedious. There's no surround auto setup. You need to measure your speaker distances manually. You need to tweak the loudness of each speaker to your liking. They should all be equal. You need to specify the type of each speaker.. etc. The menus are not very intuitive. The included speaker wire is pretty thin 22 gauge. I suppose this is ok, but it seems fragile and I prefer some more durable, less resistive 16 gauge wire for the long runs in my room. You may want to play with the crossover frequencies also. Letting the sub handle everything below 200Hz provided the best results in my case. At first I thought the sound was muddy. I then did some research on room acoustics and speaker positioning. Most real experts (the ones that work in the field and/or adhere to the scientific method) agree that the room it's acoustics and the position of you and your speakers is the single most important variable in sound quality. I completely agree after re-positioning my speakers three times. The most significant change was moving the sub-woofer out of the corner and into the open. I also got some quality mounts. In conclusion, do some research, put your speakers in the right spots, work with the setup for 3 or 4 days until you get the sound you want and crank it up. After all that, holy cow! Crank it up! 25 of 25 people found the following review helpful. Excellent entry-level HTIB By Cordial I was deciding between Onkyo HT-S3300, Yamaha YHT-393BL, and Denon DHT-391XP. I went with Denon. What strikes me is the size of the speakers. They are big! The surround speakers are larger than Yamaha's and Onkyo's fronts, while the front, center and the sub are really big for an entry level system. And unlike Yamaha and Onkyo, Denon's speakers are wooden, though we're not talking hardwood here. Size of speakers was probably the one thing that Denon had as a clear advantage and eventually swayed my opinion, given that everyone was complaining about the mediocrity of Yamaha and Onkyo speakers. I gathered that the receivers are quite comparable and just didn't like the miniscule size of Onkyo and (especially) Yamaha speakers. When I was ordering the system, the person in the store said the Yamaha and Denon weren't actually comparable and that Denon was much better. Now, for the sound quality: I'm blown away by the sound quality and volume. Granted, my space is rather smallish. It's a corner in the lower floor of my house. It's about 11'x11'. I have a Panasonic 42' plasma and a FIOS. The bass is very strong and deep. I read some reviews where people complained about the

Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result — a virtually noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source to bring out even the most subtle of nuances in your music, movie soundtracks and even MP3s. XM Ready: The XM "Connect-and-Play," is a revolutionary technology platform designed to integrate XM into virtually any home or portable consumer electronics entertainment device. By matching XM Ready® audio systems with a simple, elegant antenna/receiver, getting XM becomes even easier for home audio listeners. CinemaFILTER: The tonal balance of a film soundtrack can be edgy and bright when played back over audio equipment in your home—this is because film soundtracks are designed to be played back in large theaters, using commercial equipment. Onkyo has developed its own solution that restores the correct tonal balance of a movie soundtrack in the smaller environs of your home theater. DTS-ES 96/24 Neo6: There are two DTS®-ES™ (Extended Surround) formats: DTS®-ES™ Discrete 6.1 and DTS®-ES™ Matrix 6.1. The DTS®-ES™ Discrete 6.1 format is, as the name implies, a 6.1-channel system with a discrete back surround channel, while DTS®-ES™ Matrix 6.1, like Dolby® Digital Surround EX™, provides a matrix-encoded back surround channel. There’s also DTS® Neo:6, which derives a 6-channel surround output from a stereo soundtrack, and regular DTS®, which, like Dolby® Digital, is a discrete 5.1-channel system, but which uses less compression than Dolby® Digital. Receivers carrying the "96/24" designation are able to decode a new high-resolution audio format, DTS-96/24. This breakthrough allows for high quality, 5.1 channel audio encoded at 96kHz/24-bit resolution to be stored on a DVD-Video disc (or the DVD-Video portion of a DVD-Audio disc). This format is compatible with all DVD players, with those able to pass a 96kHz signal providing the highest quality output (DTS-96/24 is also backwards compatible with older 48kHz DVD player models). HDMI Video Upconversion: Converts incoming composite, S-Video signals (like a VCR to S-Video equipped TV), and component signals all the way to HDMI on most models. Powered Zone 2: By dedicating a pair of channels on receivers with this capability, you don’t need an external amplifier to enjoy an independent stereo audio source in a remote room. For example, on higher-end models this allows for a full 5.1 channel movie to be enjoyed in the home theater, while simultaneously sending a song from a CD (or other source) to speakers in another room. WRAT (Wide Range Amp Technology): Imagine turning up the volume and filling your entertainment room with noise-free, impressively powerful, true-to-life sound. That's the benefit of Wide Range Amplifier Technology. Originally developed for our most expensive high-end amplifiers to handle the sonic demands of today's digital age, you'll now find WRAT even in our lowest-priced A/V receivers. The WRAT family of technologies includes a broader frequency range with lower noise entering the signal path – perfectly suited for new high resolution DVD-Audio and SACD formats.

Jerard I bought this at Circuit City for $699, but it was worth it due to the financing offer along with the other equipment I bought along with it (Sony 46" XBR2 LCD TV, Harmony 880 remote, and some other miscellaneous Xmas gifts). You can definitely get it for much less on Amazon. The performance is quite good. The sound is excellent. The automated speaker sound set up is simple and easy. The video processing is a little difficult to set up, but works well once it is complete. The main reason I got this was to run all my video sources through one machine and only have one cord running up my wall to my flat screen. I hate cords being visible and by converting everything to the HDMI cable, I avoid the usual jumble of cords. The only cons are that the 674 only up-converts analog to 480i or in some cases 480p. So, other than up-converting the analog signals, it doesn't really up-convert anything else. It only passes along the digital signal at whatever resolution it is recieving it at - if 720p comes in then 720p goes out. As I understand it, this is really all you can do anyway, because up-converting a lower signal to a higher one does not really result in a better picture anyway - it pretty much will be equivalent to whatever the source resolution is. The other issue is that this receiver is on the HDMI 1.1 format I beleive. Most up to date format is 1.3. Not a huge deal, but the more recent formats pass more signals, for example, SACD audio is not compatible with 1.1, but I think it is with 1.2 and above. Again, not a huge deal for my usage, since I am really using it for DVD and HD satellite and it passes all those signals with no problems. I am waiting to have my Directv HD DVR (HR20 is the model I think) installed in a couple weeks - my expectation is that this signal will pass through the Onkyo with no problems. Will update this comment if any negatives. Otherwise I definitely recommend this receiver. 24 of 24 people found the following review helpful. Excellent receiver, affordable price By Aditya Vedula My setup: * Receiver: Onkyo TX-SR674. * 5.1 Speaker setup - Polk Audio: Monitor 70 fronts + Monitor 40 Surrounds + CS2 Center + PSW12 Subwoofer. I am thrilled with my new Onkyo TX-SR674. The feature that I love best is the single HDMI out to my TV. I can connect any component to the receiver and all I need is a single HDMI cable to my TV from the receiver - it doesn't matter if your video sources are a VCR, DVD Player, Cable, etc., all get routed through the single HDMI out to your TV. The setup was pretty painless and the HDMI switching feature works wonderfully. The receiver comes with Audessey auto-setup which takes care of setting up your speakers. The sound is awesome - my games, DVDs as well as my audio CDs sound amazing. Most of all, the price is awesome given the features. The only points to note are: * You have to read the manual to set it up - you can't setup from intuition to get the right sound and setup. You may need to research some of the technical jargon on the internet. * It seems to generate some heat - make sure your cabinets are properly ventilated. 15 of 15 people found the following review helpful. A wonderful receiver By D. Evans I really like this receiver. Even with my cheap $50 speakers, the sound is crisp and clear . This receiver has excellent speaker separation. The HDMI functions well; however, the skin tones have too much saturation going through the receiver. I adjusted the red tone down and now the picture on my 37in HD LCD tv looks great. My equipment hook-up was very easy too. The remote is great; it only took about 5 minutes to program all my component's codes. Everything works as advertised. I have my computer hooked up to this receiver and the sound is also good. Remember to read the manual well before hook up. I highly reccomend. See all 53 customer reviews...

MARANTZ still dominates the audio world By Brian Heuser This beautiful new receiver is packed with high-end options and the sound quality is nothing short of exemplary. For a full listing of technicals and features, see the site at: [...]. As compared to Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, and Pioneer, you'll notice a far more "natural" and "forward" sound, whereas the formers are more "punchy", "dark" or "processed". Marantz has been at the business of making receivers in this vein a long time and the 5004 is sure to please even the most discerning audiophiles. Of course, if you have $8K to spend, the Reference series is a nice upgrade. But for us common folk who still appreciate the performance and sound quality that a top-end receiver can produce, this is the one. On the "things to consider side", the SR5004 only has 3 HDMI outputs, so if you're in need of more such connections for your home theater, you might need to consider upgrading to the 6004. All in all, however, you can't beat this receiver for the money. This reviewer recommends pairing it with either Polk RTI or Bowers & Wilkins 600 series speakers. 17 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Marantz SR5004 Review - It Is Awesome By Doug It is obvious that WDH (a.k.a Winston from AVS Forums) purchased his Marantz Receivers from a "grey-market source" because no authorized dealer would allow someone to return and repurchase the same Marantz Product five times in a row! Frankly, I believe that people should keep their absurd comments to themselves when they buy electronics from non-authorized dealers to save a few bucks. Only an idiot would buy the same receiver five times and then complain all over the internet that is doesn't work right! Marantz is a quality brand with decades of experience making highly regarded products, especially receivers. Marantz is also known for quickly resolving "real issues" with their products and have a long warranty period (3 Years). Anyway, I have owned a Marantz SR5004 since October 2009 - it sounds great and I have had zero problems with it! The legendary Marantz Sound, which is smooth and refined, is definitely in the SR5004. I highly recommend the SR5004 when purchased from an authorized dealer, such as, Amazon, Crutchfield, etc. Don't buy from eBay or from a guy out of a white van in a dark alley (grin). By the way, I also have a SR6004, which has been running fine for about a month now and sounds awesome too! Enjoy the Music! 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Great Sound, Great Look, Full Featured By A. Altman This is my second Marantz AV receiver and I am very happy with the brand, sound, look, features and quality. I have been buying Marantz because they seem to do a better job on music than other brands and I AM an audiophile hobbyist. I want my home theater to reproduce music respectably, and this unit does. A surprise bonus - BluRay movie discs have a new audio format that when played via this receiver using HDMI sounds flat out spectacular. There seems to be a rule of thumb in the industry that it is not worth going with BluRay for the image upgrade unless your TV is high def and larger than X inches (where X varies from 32 to 42 depending on taste). Well, IMHO, the sound quality alone of BluRay justifies the upgrade - and also it is just very elegant to use HDMI rather than a gaggle of interconnects. Caveat: Perhaps not all BluRay discs utilize the new audio format, I have not tested enough discs to know. Thumbs up on the receiver. Art See all 9 customer reviews...
